Lady Linger

Oil,Lipstick,Eye Linger on canvas

12"x16" inches

In this exhibition , my work"Lady Linger" is a contemporary oil paint that inspired by the famous image "lady linger" from vault fresco in ancient China.

A lady linger in the middle of the door is a  very common image the ancient vault paint in China which means leading the souls and ghosts into another pure land (heaven) from this turning point.

I use the metirial of Lipstick, eye linger which represents the elements of modern ladies. While the theme and image are chosen to suitable for this environment.

All About Her-Feminism In Chinese Traditional Opera

Shanghai  Secondary JingKun Opera Youth Troupe in 2018 Edinburgh Fringe

All About Her — Feminism in Chinese Traditional Opera creatively combines traditional Chinese Opera with contemporary ideas, exploring feminism in the traditional opera repertoire, and creating a new contemporary style. Including traditional plays: Three claps and Song Jiang Killing, the stories show that ancient Chinese women, both noble and poor, have the determination to die for freedom from marriage.

As a producer and both a performer and director, this is a final work of my MFA degree of the Dierector of Chinese Traditional Opera course in Shanghai Theatre Academy. In this Show,  I nearly done all the jobs both in art and producer fields. In art field, I wrote the script ,composed all the songs and music for actors and musicians, designed the stage set and the official poster.

In producer fields,I contacted with the theatre and fringe team as a first time stranger,  dealed with all the affairs of passport, international visa, accomodation for a groupe of 12 troupe members.

Here is a attached media press below to introduce the show:

All About Her – Feminism in Chinese Traditional Opera

Direct from China – free show exploring contemporary feminism through traditional Chinese opera

Exploring marriage, feminism, and freedom, All About Her – Feminism in Chinese Traditional Opera features three pieces that show that ancient Chinese women, both noble and poor, have the determination to die for their beliefs. The Song of Chen YuanYuan follows a famous beauty in Ming Dynasty China, who is dissatisfied with the betrayals of husband, General Wu SanGui. Refusing to seek safety in the temple, she ultimately sinks herself into the Lotus lake. Three Claps is the story of Wang BaoChuan, the youngest daughter of Wang Yun, a Prime Minister during the Tang Dynasty. She refuses to marry the prince chosen by her father, and insists on marrying the beggar she loves. Set during the Song Dynasty, Song Jiang Killing tells the story of Yan XiJiao — the second wife of Song Jiang. Denied a divorce, she keeps a secret letter from Song Jiang. When Song Jiang agrees to permit a divorce, she fails to return the letter, and is killed by her husband.

The show explores what we think of as contemporary ideas, but have long been the subject of traditional Chinese operas. The audience will also be able to witness the actors making up, and putting on the spectacular costumes, giving a special insight into the process behind Chinese traditional opera.
